An African Girl's Memoir

Book Name : I'm A Girl From Africa
Author name : Elizabeth Nyamayaro

Here is my heartfelt takeaways from Lizzy.

This is one of my most closest memoir I've ever read.As a girl,I can connect Lizzy's (author's nick name) feelings of having a big dream.

From a girl who starved in Zimbabwe's small village Goromonzi, and to the girl who achieved her longtime dream of becoming a girl in blue uniform at United Nations Organization. Lizzy is really a living example of not giving up,determined girl.

When she explained the way about her childhood at Goromonzi with her granny Gogo, she from being a child was trained to be independent doing all her duties on her own viz., feeding the goats, searching for food at the Good Forest, helping granny in threshing maize combs and cooking hot stews.

Her little heart's longing for her mother (ammayi) who left her for some reasons with gogo , came again after years and took her to Epworth town for her higher studies.
Ammayi's and Baba's sacrifice,Uncle Sam and Aunt Jane's caring towards her, together changed her into a person of Mwana whehvu (child of african soil) that to lift every African as they did to her.

Her training period with Aunt Jane at HIV/AIDS clinics made her understand people's voices that helped after years at UN when she joined Julia for UN programme to eradicate AIDS at various African countrys.

Lizzy's undoubted big dream is my real inspiration that she promised to uncle Sam.Her way of asking job opportunity at UK's hostel owner and Julia for the first time at her interview , studying part time at London University are the interesting ones.

Even she didn't know the difference between UN Association (NGO) at UK and UNO ,she grew manyfold by her patience and consistent efforts and reached UNO at Geneva and Newyork.

Her Works in various fields at UN's multilevel projects in the African continent viz.,

1.He for She Campaign for gender equality
2.Ending Domestic Violence
3.Ending Child marriage
4. Increasing women representation in politics
5.Eradication of River Blindness
6.Eradication of AIDS

Other initiatives associated with UN like Ending Maternal and Child Mortality; promoting Education,Healthcare.

Her high level meetings with presidents and prime ministers of Uganda ,Rwanda,Finland,Ethiopia etc., shows her power of persuasion. Her joint efforts with Julia and Madam Phumzile are exemplary.

Whenever she lost hope, she prayed god and reiterated Shinga!!!! to awaken her courageous innerself.

In every moment she followed Ubuntu's principle that (African Belief System of Community Participation),As Africans we must lift eachother.

Elizabeth Nyamayaro is the ray of hope for the girls like me,she repeats uncle Sam's words in the book many times that "Lizzy! Don't get afraid to Dream Big.Your current circumstances must not resist you from dreaming big".

She intensified my inner spark of achieving big and may be I'll meet her in future with my memoir
" I'm a Girl from Indian Subcontinent ".

Shinga!!!
